Father’s Day…continued…

A Home for Aspiring Writers

Father’s Day…continued…

Hey, writers.  Welcome back for more Father’s Day goodness.  Today, we’re going to talk more about the advice my father gave me.

Hit the jump, and let’s discuss.

Writers, I have no plans to write my memoirs.  Having said that, I can’t say for sure that I never will.  But you know what I’m going to wish I had if I ever embark on that journey?  Yup, I’m going to want to have a journal.  Without researching every autobiography ever, I can say that former President of the United States Barack Obama is estimated to make at least $10,00,000 for his autobiography.

Now, I don’t pretend that every autobiography is going to make the same amount of money, but yo…that’s a lot of zeroes.

A Bar, a Car, and a….

Another point that I can’t ignore is something that I just call “Future Use.”  Like so many other things in my life, everything I take note of could possibly find a home in a future story.

Case in point, I spent some time in a foreign country a while back…and I totally got lost.  That could easily be a story of some sort.  Or, it could be a bounty hunter that gets lost planet-jumping from solar system to solar system.  Who knows?  But I did take notes on that, and in the future it will help me.

Perpetual Motion

Writers, I can say for a fact that I have taken notes on something and then had the sudden inspiration to write something else.

Writers, let’s talk about Aunt Ida again.  Man, that (fictional) woman has a hideous Christmas sweater.  Let’s start brainstorming on ugly sweaters for a bit.  What if I was working on a scary story?  What if…I had a scary story about ugly Christmas sweaters?  What if it wasn’t silly…but it was actually legit scary?  Like…hm…like the bad guy could be wearing an ugly Chistmas sweater.  But instead of an ugly Chrismas design…what if it was just simple stripes?

Dude.  Bam.

Okay, writers, I’m like, 99.999% sure that’s how Freddy came to be.   Like yeah…totally sure >.>

Haha.  Jokes aside, it really is a good exercise.

Okay, I keep talking about “ugly” Christmas sweaters, so I have to post this.  I created this long ago. I hope you all enjoy it:

How about you?
