I Hate My Voice! Haha :-)
Hey, writers. Holy smokes I hate my voice. Bruh. No. Just no.
Man I hate my voice. Ugh!
Haha.
Hit the jump, writers, and let’s discuss.
Okay. First, a quick recap. I am now a podcast co-host. OooOooh. Haha.
Here’s some info:
The podcast is called How’s It Cousins. And it is hosted by How’sItChris and AlohaAlvin.
Our first episode debuted this Halloween and was about Jessica Nigri. She is a famous cosplayer.
Like I say on the podcast, I write the way I speak so if you enjoy the content on this site then I’m sure you’ll enjoy the podcasts. Having said that, I avoid profanity on this site, but there’s definitely some swearing on the podcast.
The joke I used to make is, “I swear more before 9 a.m. than most people do all day.”
There are Many Like it, but This One is Mine
Back to the topic at hand. Wow, I hate my voice. It’s weird because I’ve heard my recorded voice before and I didn’t react like this.
Here’s the thing, I kind of expected this, but I told myself I would march forward anyway. Now, writers, you might be asking yourself why would AlohaAlvin bring up this topic here? Well, although my concern is speaking-related, there’s a lesson here for us writers.
I’m a guy that writes regularly for his site, was active in Toastmasters, and is a co-host of a podcast.
Yo, I STILL have my share of hangups. If you have any reservations about writing, do what it takes to break through that barrier. I promise you, writing can be very therapeutic. And hey, I’ve been a noob. I definitely know that feeling.
Boxers or Briefs?
I will say this, that very common advice of imagining the audience in their underwear? Nope. I have never used that system. Something tells me that if I did use that system, all that would happen is that I distract myself during my speech and I proceed to think not-so-G-rated thoughts…among other things >.>
Haha.
A long time ago I was in a speech class. The system I used to combat my nerves was to imagine I was talking to my friend in the back of the class. I remember trying that this one speech and I enjoyed giving the speech. It became easier. Well, it was easier until her and her friend realized I was just staring at them. The first three quarters of the speech was easy…the last one fourth was awkward. Haha. Still. A good day either way.
Regarding writing, I’ll mention advice I’ve heard before. If writing to a giant audience makes you feel uneasy, then maybe imagining writing to your one friend will make it easier.
How about it
Have you ever written something pretending it was only for one person?
Aloha,
Alvin
P.S. NaNoWriMo update! It’s going good! I had to miss a few days given Extra Life (see my About page), and a few other things…but I am still on point!
P.P.S. How can I miss a few days but still be on track? Don’t worry! It’s been good! I can explain it all later 🙂
