Aquman Movie Review (with spoilers)
Hey, writers. I really wanted to do a review and commentary on Aquaman but this time with spoilers. Let’s do this.
Hit the jump, writers, and let’s discuss.
One of the writer-y things that really stood out, and I thoroughly enjoyed, was the use of two different love stories.
First of all, I think it was a very gutsy move. Like I mentioned in the previous post, I have a friend that thinks there’s too much romance in the first Matrix movie. And that was just Neo and Trinity without a second couple.
I can say definitely that I enjoyed watching both romances.
First, with Arthur’s parents, I enjoyed seeing their reuniting scene. I can see someone else saying that they could’ve removed that scene, but I think it was better that they didn’t.
I cared that they were in love and it bummed me out when they had to be separated.
(Going to the pier every sunrise? Awesome.)
Also, when they reunited, it mattered to me. Sometimes there’s a big hug and I don’t care. But in Aquaman they did it well.
On top of that, I enjoyed the blossoming romance between Arthur and Mera. I thoroughly enjoy action movies, and because they are action movies, they often do not have fully fleshed romance stories.
The Aquaman movie did it much better than most. The scene in Italy? Spot on. I actually felt like the two characters evolved through the steps of disliking one another to liking each other.
The Lone Ranger
Alright, writers. I don’t like to compare movies, but here we go. Some confession time. In the Ant Man movie, we’re led to believe that Michelle Pfeiffer was no longer alive.
Then, surprise, she was alive in the Super Dangerous Area.
Well, in Aquaman we had a similar moment, but this time around I didn’t scoff. The Ant Man variation was a bit much, but the Aquaman one was just fine for me.
Curious,
Do you believe that Atlanna (Nicole Kidman) survived the exiling to the Super Dangerous Area?
Sound off in the comments 🙂
Aloha,
Alvin
